Skills Commission Reception: Building a skills system that works for everyone

Wednesday 21st February 2018, 14:00-16:00
Macmillan Room, Portcullis House

On the steps of 10 Downing Street, Prime Minister Theresa May set out her ambition to ‘make Britain a country that works not for a privileged few, but for every one of us’. An effective skills system is vital for fulfilling that ambition, allowing people from all backgrounds to thrive and contribute to the nation’s productivity.

Through a series of “A Spotlight on…” inquiries, the Skills Commission have been shining a light on the impact of the skills reforms on overlooked groups in the skills system. Our past reports have examined ‘Young people with below average academic attainment’ and ‘Lifelong learning for an ageing workforce’. With a cross-party approach we will be launching our third report ‘Apprenticeships and Social Mobility’ later this month.

Policy Connect invites you to join us to examine the findings and recommendations of the three reports to date, highlighting where progress has been made and where there is still work to be done.

We are delighted to announce our keynote speaker Angela Rayner MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Education.
