The future of UK manufacturing will be the hot topic for Made Here Now founder Peter Marsh when he speaks at this years Made in the Midlands exhibition taking place on Thursday 12th May, at the GTG Training and Conference centre, Wolverhampton.
Peter, a former Financial Times manufacturing editor, will be speaking to businesses in the Midlands about what he thinks are the prospects for UK manufacturing, especially in light of the current steel industry crisis.
He will also be discussing how the people and stories behind manufacturing are often fascinating but rarely told something which needs to change if others are to understand the exciting career opportunities available in this sector.
Peter said: As one of just two headline partners, Made Here Now is delighted to get this opportunity to directly address businesses in the Midlands.
Getting young people interested in manufacturing is a huge challenge but one we need to face to safeguard the future of the industry and ensure the UK retains its position as a leader in innovation and skills.
Made Here Now fills a gap by using a different approach to discuss the positive elements of manufacturing and how we can get more young people taking up careers in the sector, he added.
The nationwide initiative is already supported by some of the UKs leading industrial lights including Airbus, BAE Systems, JCB, Renishaw, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) and Aston University to name but a few and its Advisory Board which includes former Business Secretary Sir Vince Cable, Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, chairman of WMG as well as Professor Dame Julia King, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Aston University.
Pepperneck, as marketing specialists in the manufacturing sector, have been appointed Project Directors of Made Here Now and are also event partners of Made in the Midlands.
Peter adds: We know we are facing a huge task but it is a very important one and I will be using my speech at Made in the Midlands to encourage more people to get behind the project.
Backing from manufacturers based in the Midlands will help us achieve our aims more quickly as well as ensuring companies can continue to find the right people with the right skills they need to make their products, he added.
