“Built in the Black Country - sold around the world”

There are six weeks to go until the Advanced Engineering UK group of events at the NEC. Invest Black Country and Business Birmingham are partnering with Jaguar Land Rover to promote the Black Country as a centre of automotive excellence. On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 November 2013, Advanced Engineering UK is returning to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Combining five advanced engineering events under one roof, with more than 600 specialist exhibitors and over 200 speakers, it promises to be the biggest show of its kind yet.

To showcase the Black Country’s world-class engineering supply chain to the thousands of national and international delegates in attendance, Invest Black Country and Business Birmingham are taking exhibition space at the event.

At their pavilion (on stand G121 in Hall 5) they will promote the Black Country as an ideal place for automotive companies to set up or expand. They will be exhibiting alongside, and endorsed by, Jaguar Land Rover.

JLR is investing heavily in the region, choosing a site in the Black Country’s Enterprise Zone to build its new £500m Engine Manufacturing Centre. Business experts say the Black Country’s central location, skilled workforce and established automotive supply chain were perfect for supporting JLR’s ‘Just in time, just in sequence’ strategy for components. Alan Edwards, Senior Supply Chain Manager for JLR, will talk about this strategy in Open Forum 2 on Day 2 of the event.

Wayne Langford is Head of Investment at Invest Black Country – which has the strapline “Built in the Black Country – sold around the world”. Mr Langford spoke about the rich automotive heritage of the area.

“We have double the number of advanced manufacturing companies than the national average, so our supply chain offers a complete solution to any automotive firm looking to set up shop in our dynamic region,” he said.

“Alongside JLR we’re proud to say that other prestigious manufacturers such as JCB, BMW, Bentley and Aston Martin already have extensive supply chains in the Black Country – and we have the infrastructure to welcome more.”

JLR will be exhibiting two of its iconic car brands at Advanced Engineering UK: the latest luxury 4x4 in the Composites area of the show and a prototype Jaguar sports saloon close to the Black Country pavilion.

Invest Black Country and Business Birmingham’s partnership with JLR also means:
* Prospective JLR suppliers who visit the pavilion may get the chance to have one-to-one business briefings with senior JLR buyers
* Main contractors for JLR, Beck & Pollitzer Engineering, will be on hand to field enquiries about supplying to the new JLR engine plant assembly line
* Visitors to the pavilion can enter a business card prize draw and win a Land Rover experience for two people
* JLR is hosting a factory tour for potential investors and VIPs the day after the show, supporting Invest Black Country’s aim to encourage inward investment to the region and showcase the prime sites within the Enterprise Zone.
