The Made in the Midlands council has held the latest in their series of quarterly meetings. It took place at guest hosts Amada in Kidderminster and the 18 people around the table worked their way through a busy agenda.
President Graham Yeomans from Yeoman Pressings led a discussion on the perceived reliance of automotive work in the region and the group went on to discuss diversification, collaboration and how to discover new business opportunities. As a result Made in the Midlands will be the catalyst for this through further membership consultations.
The council went on to unanimously vote for a new Vice Chairman, Christopher Greenough of Shrewsbury based Salop Design & Engineering.
Finally there were presentations on talent retention from Jonathan Lee Recruitment, on employment law from Tim Jones of Higgs & Sons. Our chairman David Wright from Innovate UK presented a high speed sintering opportunity and Rachel Eade from MAS also presented the group with new business opportunities from Birmingham City Council and HS2.
Chief Operating Officer Charles Addison concluded: The discussions around new business and diversification were challenging, but there was a real appetite in the room for collaborative working. This absolutely demonstrates the ethos of Made in the Midlands which was hugely encouraging. We were delighted to welcome Christopher Greenough as Vice President, his energy and enthusiasm was infectious and his appointment is a real coup for us.
The meeting concluded with a tour of the facilities at Amada.
