Japan’s national public broadcasting organisation NHK will be providing extensive coverage of the upcoming Made in the Midlands Exhibition, which will take place on Thursday 12th May at the GTG Training Centre in Wolverhampton.

NHK recently filmed our MIM Brexit debate and conducted interviews with a variety of Midland manufacturers to gather their perspective of the implications of a Brexit. The coverage was overseen by by Senior Producer Daisuke Koyama, Broadcast Journalist Kana Fushimi and Chief Correspondent Akihiro Matsuki.

NHK will be covering the largest event Made in the Midlands have ever held, in order to capture how local Midlands manufacturers are promoting their businesses. There are a wide variety of potential angles for them to cover, which include: Training & Skills, apprenticeships, thoughts on Brexit and thoughts on the British economy.

Japanese manufacturers are currently concerned and do not want to be surrounded by Japan’s weak economy and ageing population. In turn, NHK will be providing the Japanese public with an insight into how British manufacturers are driven to network with a view to doing more business and meeting like-minded companies.

NHK’s official Twitter feed: @nhk_news is followed by over 1,850,000 people, which highlights the significant following the station has within Asia. Their coverage will provide Made in the Midlands with a wealth of coverage within Japan and will provide local manufacturers with a platform to voice their opinions in front of a global audience.

At the start of this month, Reuters reported: “Japan final April manufacturing PMI hits lowest since Jan 2013 after Kumamoto earthquake.” On April 14th, the Kumamoto earthquake damaged houses and halted production at electronics and car factories within the area.

With Japan’s current manufacturing conditions worsening, NHK’s coverage of our exhibition will allow Japanese manufacturers to learn how British manufacturers are collaborating and thriving under the blanket of the negative coverage the sector is receiving from our national press.
