Understanding the role of the Made in the Midlands Council

In all membership organisations a high standard of governance helps steer the organisation and offers checks and balances for the benefit of the customer. Made in the Midlands is held to account and advised by individual members that represent the interests of members.

These people give up their time to take part in quarterly meetings to help ensure members get value from the group and that Made in the Midlands delivers.

With a strong following in the West Midlands, we felt the time was right last year to develop a dedicated base in the East Midlands. We achieved this with the launch of our East Midlands expo in Derby, which we have rebooked for this year.

In addition we wanted a dedicated voice for the East Midlands region made up from business owners and managers with a strong focus on the East Midlands. We therefore launched our East Midlands council.

Directors from Boneham and Turner, Nylacast, MWS Ltd, QTS Ltd, R A Labone, OLD Engineering, Rapitypes, East Midland Coatings and Voestalpine Rotec attended the first meeting and sat on a peer to peer level in hopes to bring subjects that matter to the table, share their best practice and provide solutions. Consequently, it was decided that Bruce Renfrew, MD of Rapitypes would be Vice-Chairman and Charles Boneham, MD of Boneham and Turner would be Chairman. In the MIM magazine that is being currently distributed this was incorrectly reported as President and Vice-President.

Our West Midlands Council is comprised of members who help steer the direction of our organisation. Director of Salop Design, Christopher Greenough is the President and Managing Director at Cube Precision Engineering Ltd Neil Clifton is Vice-President. This may have been the root of the confusion in the mistaken titles of our East Midlands Council.

Our West Midlands Council includes Phil Stanley, MD of Threeway Pressings, Deryk Law, MD of Clayton Holdings  Ltd, Roy Taylor MD of Malthouse Engineering Co. Ltd, Chris Arrowsmith, MD of Midlands Deburr and Finish Ltd, Ian Perks, Director of Alloy Heat Treatment, Steve Creron, MD at Delcam UK, Andy Evans, Director at SSC Laser, Chris Gorvin, Director at Anochrome Group, David Lindsey, MD of Laser Process Limited, Helen Pitt, MD of Andel Plastics Ltd, Josh Dudley-Toole, Business Development Manager of Frank Dudley Ltd, Gareth Jones, MD of In-comm Training and Business Services and Peter Davies, Chief Executive of James Lister & Sons Ltd.

Ideas presented by the council include, improving interaction with members, improving the functionality of the digital platform and reaching a consensus and single voice on issues such as commentary on industry and lobbying issues.

The aim of the new East Midlands council will be to provide a deeper insight into some of the differences across the East regions and provide a bridge of communication into the current MIM council, headed by the Director of Salop Design & Engineering, Chris Greenough.
